Aimee & Laurence’s Autumn Wedding at Furtho Manor Farm

Aimee and Laurence’s big day at Furtho Manor Farm in Buckinghamshire was a beautiful autumn wedding, with all the rustic charm you could hope for from a countryside wedding venue.

Furtho Manor Farm is a working farm that has become a popular wedding and events venue, with its characterful converted cowshed providing a fantastic setting for celebrations throughout the year. Aimee and Laurence’s rustic wedding theme fitted perfectly with the rural surroundings, particularly at this time of year when the autumn colours and changing light added so much atmosphere to the day.

The cowshed also proved to be the perfect shelter from the typically unpredictable October weather. But, as so often happens at British weddings, the weather had one more surprise in store. Towards the early evening, the clouds broke and the sun appeared, bathing the farm in beautiful golden light. It was simply too good an opportunity to miss.

Making the most of the golden hour

I knew Aimee and Laurence weren’t particularly looking forward to having their wedding portraits taken. And that’s absolutely fine – not everyone feels comfortable in front of a camera.

Couples portraits are never something I insist on. My approach to wedding photography is very much about allowing couples to enjoy their day rather than constantly pulling them away from their guests. But I also know that even the most camera-shy couples can sometimes be surprised by how much they enjoy taking a little time together for some photographs.

With the evening light looking this good, I gently suggested we head out for a short walk.

We made our way down to the lakeside jetty before venturing a little further into the surrounding fields. The golden light, autumn landscape and quietness away from the main celebrations created the perfect opportunity for some relaxed, natural wedding photographs.

And, most importantly, Aimee and Laurence loved it.

There was no complicated posing or lengthy photoshoot – just a short walk, a bit of gentle encouragement, plenty of laughter and some absolutely beautiful light.

Natural, relaxed wedding photography

For me, this is what wedding photography should be about. It’s not about forcing couples into awkward poses or spending hours away from their wedding guests. It’s about finding those little opportunities during the day to create photographs that feel natural and genuinely reflect the couple.

Aimee and Laurence’s Furtho Manor Farm wedding was a great example of that. Sometimes, all it takes is a little encouragement, a relaxed approach and a willingness to make the most of what the day gives you.

Even the most camera-shy couples can come out of their shells – and end up with photographs they will treasure for years to come.
